Probably Pixar's best to date. Certainly the studio's most artful. Another film that, sadly, has had all the best stuff said about it long before i got along to it; but i do echo jeff_v's "right movie at the right time sentiment" wholly and completely. Probably for a different reason-- i don't care to get into exactly why the initial courtship between Wall-E and Eve resulted in silent, Denzel-style man-tears tumbling from my eyelids for a full 40 minutes or so-- but the point is, even without that intensely emotional reaction (the same reaction Pixar would give me a few years later with that devastating opening to "Up"-- i mean, shit, dude), "Wall-E" delivers as pure art, the collision of meticulous craft with this whole "we make movies to sell toys to kids" facade Pixar has been draping over their deeply heartfelt examinations of the human condition since jump street. This isn't just Pixar reaching its full potential as a studio; it's animation reaching its apex. Nah, fuck that, it's film reaching its apex. Evocative, beautiful without being showoffy, cutting, boldly experimental, i'll never run out of superlatives for this one.

My husband ALWAYS HAS TO see the new pixar film in the theater, despite the kids and the lines, etc. On the other hand, I was not very enthusiastic about Wall-E because my impression from the trailer was "Wall-E, a old dirty robot, trying to save the world?"
The movie definitely exceeded my expectations and surprised me with the contents. Unlike other pixar & disney movies, Wall-E had a very strong message. I am not sure if small kids got the message, but it must have hit the heart of the parents and parents-to-be. At least it completely hit mine...
The interaction between Wall-E and Eve (or Eva in Wall-E's words)was adorable and sheer genius, especially considering that their names and unidentifiable computer sounds are all they say.

OK. I am a proclaimed PIXAR slut. Accordingly I have a large bias. Regardless, I think this film rocked. I love the fact that they managed to execute this film in true PIXAR fashion - bringing life and emotion from the inanimate. There's very little dialogue in the film and what's most interesting was the blending of content for kids and parents. The dark reality hits home for the parents, but goes right by the kids and is fairly well camouflaged.
I watched this film in the theater with many kids asking their parents, "Why did this happen to Earth?" and other vaguely pointed questions but most parents managed to escape exhaustive debate with, "Oh look at WALL-E!"
Kudos also to the short preceding the film - especially cuz I love bunnies! Especially bunnies with attitude.

Still collecting thoughts on this, but I'm glad this was the first movie I took my daughter to see in theaters. Not sure what she got out of it ("Look! Robots are holding hands!" was a typical reaction) but at least she watched it all without running off somewhere. My one word reaction: Chaplinesque. The right movie at the right time.
