The movie was way more than I expected. I thought it'd be just a so-so assassin movie based on the preview, but the movie threw a lot of interesting thoughts and ideas. Some of the scenes were absolutely amazing - I loved the car scene with Jolie. Although it included lots of rats (and killing them), it got a high rating because the story was very intriguing - guess rats bother me less than snakes or bugs....

I had zero expectations for this film as it was a summer blockbuster. The previews look "eh" and the combination of Angelina Jolia and Morgan Freeman, I was thinking "hmmm - Tomb Raider meets Shawshank Redemption" or something.

There is a bias in my ratings as works of this can only be compared with its predecessors, but if such predecessors did not exist, perhaps this film would have garnered a higher rating. As thus there is a comparison here to be made with "The Matrix" but the philosophical rambling here, while present, is not so in your face. There is but one meta-physical theme to ponder here.

Needless to say the two mega-stars thankfully kept their exposure on screen to a minimum so as to provide the pivotal role it's ironic anchoring point. Brilliant comic work adapted to the big screen.

Perhaps one day they can make the proper treatment for Neal Gaiman perhaps?

I don't know what it is about this movie, but I was hooked after the first stunt. Great action flick. A little predicible, but still some over the top stunts.

Mindless but Energetic Action Flick....

Exhaustingly stupid and pretentious. So many horrible things about this movie...I won't give it a zero because admittedly a few of its hyper-stylish bits almost appealed to me, albeit in a guilty-pleasure way (like when he smacks the guy with the keyboard and the broken keys flying through the air spell out "fuck you"), and also because I was nearly in awe of its ultra-violent nihilism ("Fight Club" got away with it but it wasn't poised for summer movie blockbusterdom), trying to imagine "did general audiences flock to this thinking it was the latest "Matrix" or "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" and find themselves somewhat ill-at-ease when James McAvoy uses a man's bullet-ridden head as a holster?" No, they probably didn't even think twice about it.

But otherwise, it's begging you to hate it in every "badass" frame, stolen plot contortion, smug line of dialogue, and embarrassing performance. It's the kind of extreme filmmaking that wants attention for being ridiculous, yet wildly miscalculates all of its efforts (Loom of Fate???), the kind of arrogant poseur that thinks its blowing our minds yet ends with the ultra-covert, heretofore ingenious bad guy walking up behind the hero in the middle of a crowded office and pointing a gun at his head, only to find out it's just a mild-lookalike decoy (if only he'd seen the decoy from a slightly different angle!) and that he's standing on a large X target on the ground (if only he had peripheral vision!). The kind of movie that ends by literally looking the viewer in the face and calling him a worthless loser, after spending 2 hours soullessly, incompetently, transparently, obnoxiously, pointlessly, hypocritically ripping off a pair of cult classics from 1999

It took nine years, but Fight Club and The Matrix finally produced an offspring, Timur Bekmambetov's dain-bramaged Wanted. There isn't a scene, nay, a shot, that isn't ridiculously overblown. And to what end? The movie's appeal is apparently to make people marvel at ingenious and outrageous ways of killing people. It's hard to imagine a movie that value human life less. I mention this not because I'm on some moral high-horse, but because it's the primary reason why it fails to work as a pulse-racing action movie. When lives a thrown away so carelessley, and all the stunts are manipulated through computer-generated imagery, there is nothing at stake. Who care whether the hero survives or fails? It's sick that the only reason you keep watching is to see how someone will take a bullet to the head.
