Too much noise, too little charm. I'm ok with the premise of making a revisionist action-hero Holmes movie, but in this case it is mainly watchable because of RD jr. - Jude Law and Rachel McAdams aren't bad either - but at times the noise just suffocates them as well. Most of the scenes in Holmes' apartment were pretty ok, though, picturing a perfectly neurotic and sympathetic Sherlock Holmes.

Hollywood pulls a "Pirates of the Caribbean" on another antique property, frosting a famous narrative with action, explosions, hot (yet perfectly cast) actors, and snarky quips. The result isn't as engaging or memorable as a classic Holmes mystery (in literary form), but it's a likable addition to the blockbuster pantheon and the emphasis on Sherlock's action-hero status isn't at all as offensive as it sounds in concept. More on the plus side, Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, of course, make a wonderful pair of the classic sleuths, and this franchise's particular money shot - Holmes' reasoning powers - are a treat.
What makes the movie more average than awesome, however, is the only slightly intriguing mystery at hand, some of Guy Ritchie's gratuitous stylistic load-blowing, and the occasional distractingly fake computer-assisted scenery-rendering. The cobblestone streets, Victorian fashion, and ever-grey skies of 19th century London make a lovely setting, and Ritchie even adds grandiosity to it (like with the ridiculously vast suspension bridge in the climax), but half the time the effects have a blurry glaze.
Anyway as fast-food this is a meal worth ordering, but it's not the best they could've done to bring Sherlock Holmes to 21st century movie audiences

It was great - kinda dark humory though. Although I prefer the typical Sherlock and Watson, i.e., brillian investigators, than the action hero-like characters in this movie, I do have to say that it was kinda sexy.
