Not a lot to add on this front; perhaps it's most aptly described as "strong", which is only a detrimental adjective inasmuch as Payne is capable of greatness, as indicated by most of his other material. Still, even if it's lesser Payne, he's still great at mining these humanist stories for optimal humor and pathos, and "The Descendents" often weaves the two together to terrific effect. The performances are great -- really, it's just a solid little Alexander Payne movie, with all that implies, and the sort of thing that I really wish we got a lot more frequently.

Another strong film from Alexander Payne. There are a few cringe-worthy moments, but for every one of those, there's a dozen to marvel over. George Clooney and Shailene Woodley are excellent, and Payne gives them plenty of room to grow into fully-realized portraits. Also makes great use of the Hawaii location, such that it becomes another character.
