Wanted to applaud after the spectacular opening credits, knowing that it would be downhill from there. Fincher does his best with the material, which frankly skeeves me out --the marriage of Fincher's polished sheen with the exploitation aspects of the story never sits well, and the film lacks the human pulse of Demme's Silence of the Lambs. It's slick and effective.
