Someone, please stop Adam Sandler before somebody gets hurt. This is just more Sandler stupidity with a 30 minute idea stretched into 90 minutes of setups for 3 minutes of actual gags and 10 seconds of laughter. Maybe I will just spend 10 seconds reading another review and get the same benefit.

I'm not afraid to say it: I'm a Sandler fanboy. I've been once since Happy Gilmore and I'll be one until he does direct-to-video chopsocky flicks at the age of 65. This, however, is probably his worst film. It's his most pat, cloying, cutesy film, not to mention his most obvious one. Sandler plays another Sandler-slacker who somehow manages to get custody of a kid and decides to adopt him to impress the girl he's wooing. Cue many scenes of Sandler reacting the wrong way to things that the kid does... many scenes. It's not so much that there are many of these... it's that they're not necessarily funny. They're just obvious and labored, which is something that is rarely found in Sandler movies. Even his worst films have moments that are so terribly absurd that they redeem the fact that the film is so predictable. None of that here, unfortunately. The film has its moments, but most of it is on comedy autopilot.

Fairly awful, yes, but dragged to the surface by periphal performances by Jon Stewart and Josh Mostel, as well as a sympathetic, likable Joey Lauren Adams; the problem is that, at least in the case of Stewart and Mostel, these ancillary roles are nothing more than nerdy appreciation. They're not actually given _good_ roles; those of us who like these actors just get a momentary thrill from seeing them onscreen. The rest of "Big Daddy" is just a slog through more Happy Madison horseshit, and moves from flippant buffoonery to mawkish sentimentality and back again in 90 minutes or so. I mean, Sandler plays something a little bit closer to an actual person than usual, but that doesn't mean he's likable or charming; most humans aren't, honestly. I dunno. It's just such an interminably blah puff piece that it's hard to really rake over the coals, but equally hard to appreciate in any way. (Also, I'm not sure why the film tries so hard to convince us that Sandler has fallen in love with this kid to the point of wanting to be his new dad - the kid's so fucking annoying that only his birth parents could truly love him.)

i hadn't planned on seeing this, yet somehow i did .. and was pleasantly surprised. often times hilarious, and at least somewhat humorous at other times, the only time the film loses speed is when it tries to get either cute or sappy. line this up alongside "happy gilmore" in the adam sandler collection ..

Slurpy silly story of a man who adopts a child in hopes of gaining a fiancee. The fiancee rejects him and he is left with blessed fatherhood in all its glory. Problem is, he really gets to love the boy and finds a much better woman along the way. Too much slapstick and slush for me. And poor parental modeling (even if I could muster up a sense of humor). But Sadler, when he isn't being overly cute can sometimes be downright charming.

Watching this pityful movie, almost had be bored to some top quality H2O tears.. I thought the humour quite pathetic- crude (The child urinating on the wall was only effective once) or at someone else's misfortune (but you'll still find yourself laughing at one unfortunate rollerblader). From beneath the breasts of countless women, I felt the child showed little acting ability, perhaps this is due to the lack of lines.. And Adam Sandler failed as a Comic Actor. This movie left me feeling UnHappy-Anymore.

This movie didn't make me laugh once. As for Adam Sandler....he wasn't funny on SNL and he sure as hell isn't funny in movies. He should really try and get a new skit - one that doesn't have him talking in that annoying whining ugly voice. Man, I hate him.

A nice feel good/comedy movie with Adam Sandler.
This is not the greatest movie ever made but is by no means the worst.
As with most Adam Sandler projects this is the sort of film you really need to just disconnect your brain and enjoy some silliness.
