This is a nice adrenaline rush action thriller. Matt Damon gets credit for picking clever scripts and interesting characters. Some will recognize Franka Potente as the heroine of Run Lola Run. She does a pretty good job, too. Better than a typical action movie. One thing did leave me wonderig, though: the ability of seemingly dead attackers to come to live again, just like in every slasher movie - why don't they just die?

The Bourne Identity has a good plot, but every time you think they're going to throw something interesting or a twist, it does nothing. It has "Matrix-like" fighting, but it's necessary for the plot, unlike other movies that just throw it in because it looks cool. Matt Damon and the special effects are great. The beginning and towards the end are easily the best pasts of the film, because the middle gets a little lacksadaisacal. But anyway, it was a fun film to watch.

Fast-paced adaptation of a Robert Ludlum novel (which I started, but never finished on account of it being pretty crappy) that treats the viewers as intelligent people most of the time. Matt Damon is found floating in the ocean by Italian fishermen. He doesn't remember who he is, but slowly gains some skills like cracking codes, breaking necks and shooting someone from about 50,000 feet away. He manages to involve German gypsy Franka Potente in the whole mess. It's not believeable, but it's not over-the-top, either. The see-all CIA gets to be annoying but that doesn't detract from the overall experience of the film. There's one particularly dumb, implausible stunt (anyone who's seen the movie will know what I'm talking about) but at least that stunt ends with Damon falling flat on his face. Good supporting cast, including Julia Stiles in a surprisingly small role. Miles ahead of xXx.

I read the book back in high school and thought it was good - but of course my taste has significantly changed since then.
I believe that the movie captures the action intense aspects of the book that were difficult to visualize from a book standpoint, so in that aspect I enjoyed this film - from a pure visual effects standpoint. I thought the director went off on some of his visual effects that weren't realized, but oh well - his call.
I thought the storyline could have been a lot more effective without the woman. Jason Bourne has enough trouble finding himself without getting a woman involved at the same time. But perhaps some romantics would argue that it was BECAUSE of the woman he found himself at last. Yeah, right. Find yourself first. :)

Wow.. is about all I can say.. Walking out of the theatre, my mind raced as it remembered the car chase. Amazing what a little Mini Cooper can do. The scenes in which Matt remembered some of his combat training (unarming and offensive attacks) were quite amazing. Very good action flick, although could have gone deeper into the plot in some areas.
Great Movie to see on the big screen, and a definite addition to your movie library if you enjoy action.

There's nothing particularly wrong with this summertime spy thriller, but watching Matt Damon and Franka Potente handle this material is like watching Tiger Woods play putt-putt golf.
Also, the sight of Matt Damon with a gun made me think of nothing so much as his cameo in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back--the hilarious Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season spoof.

Watchable action thrillerish...hints at building up to a twist at the end...but finally as flat as a pancake...expect action hero with feisty girl support...with loads of police and backstabbing agents on their back.

In interviews, Doug Liman and Matt Damon talked about how they wanted to make an unconventional thriller. However, the only thing unconventional about The Bourne Identity is how good it is. Good use of location, canny casting, and some well-staged action scenes make for an effective, if familiar, thriller. The story raises some credibility questions, but that's par for the course.

Hey, it's a lot of fun. I don't have a problem with the "lack of chemistry" between Matt Damon and his love interest. I don't know what the critics are complaining about. It's a silly movie, but the action and the locations make it worth watching if you can't decide what to pick out at the video store in a few months.
