Wow, amazing story, i love the perspective and the time shifts. It's got to be one of the greatest endings in a movie. I love it the moment the cop realizes what really happens. It's great.

The only problem with "The Usual Suspects" is that it is sometimes too convoluted for it's own good. It took me half of the movie to figure out that the entire movie had happened in the past and was being told by the Kevin Spacey character to a cop. That might make me seem stupid, but I am, so who cares? Other than that, this movie is great. The cast is excellent (especially Kevin Spacey, who won a well-deserved Academy Award for this). The ending was the most surprising I've seen (I didn't even have that "Why didn't I think of that?" thought that I usually get at surprise endings). A very clever movie.

Maybe I should re-watch this one, because I don't see eye-to-eye with the critics. So what about gay-ass Kaiser Soze! www.outcrybookreview.com/meat.htm

This little 105-minute indy film from 1995 wormed its way into the heart of movie buffs and casual movie viewers alike within a couple years. The screenplay is absolutely wonderful, twisting at every possible turn, turning at every possible twist, and providing sizzling dialogue all the way. This crime thriller offers loads upon loads of plot to digest, but, unlike other movies that are plot for plot's sake, there's a method behind the madness in "The Usual Suspects". The criminals, portrayed by Kevin Spacey, Benicio Del Toro, Kevin Pollak, Gabriel Byrne, and Stephen Baldwin, are characterized by sharp minds and crackling repartee. This movie may be one of the most quotable of its decade. The ending is wildly brilliant, altering the whole course of the past 100 minutes as well as explaining it. Even without that infamous ending, the film stands as a testament to the art of filmmaking--a man with a budget and a good screenplay can make one of the greatest American films in recent memory.

The Crème de la crème of suspense/mystery films, IMHO. An amazing cast, consisting of Kevin Spacey, Gabriel Byrne, Chazz Palmenterri, Benicio del Toro, Stephen Baldwin, Kevin Pollock and more. This is a powerhouse of talent, all rolled up into a tight, well-written and enthralling storyline.
Verbal Kint (Spacey) retells the story of the series of events leading up to a huge ship-yard fire, killing dozens of people.
This one will keep you guessing from beginning to end. I guarantee you, if you’re a fan of mysteries, you’ll watch this one over and over again, only to be amazed each time. You try to catch them in their intertwined plot, looking for holes, but there really aren’t any. It’s quite brilliant; easily one of my top 5 movies of all time. This is a must buy!

I liked this film. Kevin Spacey was good in this movie, as was Gabriel Byrne. It was confusing though, and I missed the whole Keyser Soze thing at the end the first time I watched it. But I caught it a second time and saw some clues I missed first time around. It could have been a lot better though.

The diamond in the rough. An unexpectedly fine and little-hyped suspense flick.

What characters! This movie gave me so much respect for Kevin Spacey and Chazz P. and whoever wrote it.

Detractors of "The Usual Suspects" denounce it as a "gimmick" movie-- all it has going for it besides the infamous twist ending is great acting and a great screenplay. I say: that's ALL "The Usual Suspects" needs to work, and it's made even better by its infamous twist ending. As a hard-boiled cop (Chazz Palminteiri) grills a frustratingly chatty criminal with a short attention span (Kevin Spacey) about the events surrounding the fiery explosion of a drug lord's boat-- an explosion survived only by Kint and a hallucinating, bedridden Hungarian man-- an elaborate, seedy tale is woven. The focus is on Spacey's character, but his four fellow carjacking suspects-- the flippant Kevin Pollack, the somber Gabriel Byrne, the manic Stephen Baldwin, and Benicio Del Toro, pre-Oscar, as a smooth, mush-mouthed criminal-- make the character interplay and the intricate screenplay that much more of a joy to behold. A treat for those caper-loving cinephiles who have, thus far, missed the boat.

Great acting all around, especially, by Kevin Spacey. And of course, there's that surprise ending that I, admittedly, did not see coming at all. One very special thing about this movie for me, though is that even after the ending, after the surprise is revealed, I still wanted to go back and watch it from the beginning to try to make sense of the complex plot and certain characters. And without giving anything away I will say that after the ending, I didn't have to make sense of those things, I just wanted to. That's how the movie really hits you.

Jeff_Wilder  [ 10.0 ]    [ add to preferred ]    [ email this review to a friend ]

Unlike The Sixth Sense (which had only a twist ending) this one offers fantastic acting and a well-written screenplay along with the mind-blowing final plot twist. The performances by Kevin Spacey, Gabriel Byrne, Kevin Pollak and Benicio Del Toro are fantastic and the script is loaded end to end with pulp fun. Definitely a modern day crime classic.

It'll keep you guessing all right - but it won't get you a job at the CIA if you figure it out first.

I got so twisted up in the plot I had no idea who Kaiser Souse` was:) Worth seeing.

Brilliant, a little slow going at the start...but it all comes together in the end. Kevin Spacey is excellent. One of THE movies of the 90's.

Once you know the secret, this film loses much of its appeal.

Stitch  [ 9.0 ]    [ add to preferred ]    [ email this review to a friend ]

Great flick with a great surprise ending. Kevin Spacey made his mark (it's about time) with this one. Great cast, pretty violent, keeps you guessing til the last. But you've got to pay really close attention. There are a lot of twists and turns and convolutions that can be tricky. Who is Keyser Soze?

drew95  [ 10.0 ]    [ add to preferred ]    [ email this review to a friend ]

This is the REAL "Sixth Sense."

This is the movie which contains the REAL twist in the end, the REAL surprise, the REAL event that changes the first 100 minutes of the film. Not only does it contain great performances (including Kevin Spacey's Oscar-winning turn) but it sports a great cast, a nearly perfect (and VERY original) screenplay, and some memorable lines, but it has one of the most mind-boggling twists at the end.

Can "The Sixth Sense" compete with that? No, and, considering it took its twist from "A Pure Formality" (1994), it's not nearly as surprising as either "Suspects" or "Formality."

So....yeah. See it.

JD  [ 7.0 ]    [ add to preferred ]    [ email this review to a friend ]

Let me say this for the record...Good movie? YES. Great movie? No. I've watched it a second time just so I could understand what clues I might have missed at the beginning. Then I watched it a third time to see why it received the acclaim it did. Again, this is a good movie but it has a few problems. The plot is a little contrived and if you actually pay close attention there are some gaping holes. Aside from that, the dialogue tends to drag a little at times. Anyway, I'm nitpicking. It just doesn't have the same impact it did when I first saw it.

Kevin Spacey is one of my favorite actors, an as "usual" he does a great job of acting in this movie.

The Usual Suspects is one of those films that everyone should see... period. What a great story-- take fife criminals and bring them together for a lineup, then weave an intricate crime story with a villian so heinous, so utterly horrific, that to look in his eyes is probable death by fear. The last five minutes is the very best (see my "Great Moments in Film" article). Gotta see it.
