Take most of what I wrote on the first direct-to-DVD "Futurama" movie ("Bender's Big Score") and exponentially increase the criticisms. Nothing serious against the delightful show or anyone involved, but like its meekest episodes, this 2nd feature-length effort suffers from a case of 360-degree overkill. In attemping relentlessly to play off cliches and stereotypes of traditional sitcoms and sci-fi fiction and other pop culture markers, it generates countless more - that is, the parodies and twisty dialogue and everyone's-a-jerk routine are so familiar and over-used by both "Futurama" and every other irony-laden comedy of the last decade (but most notably "The Simpsons") that they've become their own cliches. As wild as the plot gets here, in typical "Futurama" fashion, it's all so rote that it miraculously manages to be BORING, of all things, which should be impossible for such a creative, zany, dense, brainy, and lovably inviting universe. Perhaps additional viewings, much like episode reruns, will soften my heart and reveal new pleasures (as has happened infinite times with the last decade's initially crappy but subsequently worthwhile run of "The Simpsons", among others), but until then, this one's branded a bit of a snoozer. So much going on, yet so little (anything?) we haven't seen before on at least five different occasions each. Sorry gang.
