Bad, but not Dane Cook bad. Dane Cook bad is the "Good Luck Chuck" school of filmmaking, where Cook is supposed to be a charming cad, but instead comes off as a smug dipshit the entire time; here, at least Cook borders on likable, and Dax Shepard (marginally underrated at what he does, although I agree that's not saying much) is around to be kinda, sorta funny. That said, the movie's a slog, and while I have a weakness for workplace comedies (I dug "Waiting", for example, so imply whatever you will about me based on that), this one feels so wholly unnecessary and stuffed with lazily wackadoo Happy Madison caricatures that it's hard to actually like it. The best thing that you can say is that it doesn't inspire burning hatred, which might make it Dane Cook's best starring vehicle to date.

I don't know why I saw this - oh yeah, because I'm a whore - but it wasn't quite as appalling as a movie featuring this many annoying celebrities should have been. Let's see, there's Dane Cook (obnoxious comedian) as the hero, Dax Shepard (frat boy doofus, associated with Ashton Kutcher) as the villain, Jessica Simpson (pox on America) as the love interest, that guy from "Napoleon Dynamite" (one-note cipher who still has never actually acted in a movie), Harland Williams (the unfunniest person alive?), and Andy Dick (talented but too fond of appearing in dreck like this, and often nerve-grating). I might have missed a few. The only decent thing about the movie, and it doesn't even last until the end, is Dax Shepard, who, despite what I said, gets sort of a bum rap. He can be funny, and occasionally is, albeit too self-consciously. His jerk routine works for me, but it's gradually muted towards the end. Either way, though, he was the one I rooted for, not Cook. The movie actually is fairly bad in that it's so direly inconsequential, the epitome of a movie you'll forget even while you're watching it, but it has a few good one-liners, I guess, if you can get past the cavalcade of irritating pseudo-stars.
