Billed as Jet Li's last action film and nominally based on the true story of Huo Yuan Ji.
Pretty good, if slightly lecturing on the importance of the unity of the Chinese nation. Actually some of it felt like Chinese nationalistic propaganda, but in a good way. More like that of "Hero" I guess. But perhaps this is a Jet Li thing these days.

Martial arts epics - hell, any genre - can be extremely tiring under the wrong circumstances. Namely, if I just don't care while watching the movie. Sadly was the case with Jet Li's supposedly final action picture, the dramatically ambitious yet wholly formulaic and cheesy "Fearless". It has a heartfelt final shot and sentiment, true, and I guess it's better to tell a sincere story about a true, noble champion than to string together action scenes for NO reason whatsoever, but everything about the movie is old hat. Even the kung fu (or whatever type) battles didn't hold my attention much - it's been done, far better, and with less awkward physicality (there's surprisingly little grace to any of it this time). Sorry, Jet Li. I'm sure you'll be back in the action fold sooner or later, anyway
