Otto Preminger's entertaining filmed version of the stage musical adaption of Bizet's oft-performed opera is gorgeous, slick and occasionally thrilling. Dorothy Dandridge and Harry Belafonte give impassioned, carnal performances that overcome the awkwardness of having their songs dubbed by trained opera singers. They could have done more with the specific milieu (both in terms of setting and the music), but it's a minor complaint.
