chapter11 [ 6.0 ]

I mean, it's nice. It's nice to see the gang back together, it's nice to indulge in a bit of toilet humor and it's got a nice, pat resolution for a conflict that arises out of a misunderstanding that no one would ever make, and is resolved based on an apology that no one who _did_ make that misunderstanding would ever accept. Still, it's a fun time. Chris Klein is marginally less inept than he was when the first "American Pie" rolled around, Seann Michael Scott is exponentially funnier these days, and Eugene Levy even gets to flex some genuine pathos.

More or less agree with chapter11, except as usual I'm an easier lay. I enjoy the company of this cast even if their antics, as from day one, are but a string of forced, episodic sexual gross-out sequences and weakly contrived plot conflicts held together by a (-n equally calculated, yet adorably) whimsical sincerity in its camaraderie. Everyone's schtick is even less inspired this time around and there's no fresh comedic ground to cover, yet the sweet-natured vibes and genial familiarity of the ensemble at least keep this several notches above, say, "Porky's Revenge" or whatever other long-running sex comedy franchises are out there. Just like "Wedding", this "Reunion" squeezes a whole lot of pathos out of the sense that these kids have finally attained a sense of maturity and wisdom that will set them for life, even if they never stop getting their dicks stuck in the wrong places, so it would be appropriate for the series to conclude here, despite current contrarian plans.
