Sometimes depicted as the great lost Bill Murray classic, Quick Change (co-directed by Murray with Howard Franklin) stands as perhaps the purest distillation of Murray's sardonic, sad-clown persona. It's not Murray's best or funniest movie by a long shot but it seems to me that this has the closest approximation of what Murray really is like (or rather what Murray really strives to be on-screen since he and I aren't best buds).
He plays a sardonic bank robber who sticks up a bank dressed up as a clown, slipping his co-conspirators (Geena Davis and an irritating Randy Quaid) in as 'hostages'. He pulls a daring-but-sardonic escape on weary police negotiator Jason Robards and peels off into the sunset... or rather, he would if he could figure out how to get off the island of Manhattan.
The film is split in two distinct halves: the first is a sarcastic riff on Dog Day Afternoon and the second a wildly uneven madcap anti-NY satire complete with Falling Down-style misanthropy and xenophobia. The passage into the second half also marks the passage of Murray from 'disapproving of humanity' into 'actively beaten-down by humanity'. The former is a lot funnier while the latter is full of piss and vinegar but wastes its ire on Korean shopclerks and cab drivers who can't speak any English. It's a half-decent little comedy, largely buoyed by Murray and the always-likeable Geena Davis but its anger and petulant nose-thumbing isn't aimed very precisely.

Very underrated and funny film starring Bill Murray, Geena Davis and Randy Quaid as bank robbers who are unable to find the airport after an ingeniusly successful heist. See it if you ever get the chance.
