I became an immediate Philip Haas fan when I saw Angels and Insects, which was in my opinion one of the best films of the whole 1990's. Thus my expectations for this film were very high - needles to say that I was disappointed. The pictures are beautiful and all but there is absolutely no intensity or substance in the characters nor in the scenes.

Sean Penn and Kristan Scott Thomas star in this avarage romance/thriller about a wealthy English woman who can't decide between three men until one of the men kills himself. The film tries to tie in the impact of WWII approaching but it just doesn't deliver. Average at best.
