A breakthrough in the rock musical format! Punk rock mixes with heavy metal, rock ballads, and one or two traditionally Broadway-sounding showstoppers. A must-see for any fans of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. John Cameron Mitchell stars, writes, and directs this new cult classic. A film of change, freedom, and truth. YOU MUST SEE THIS FILM! (availble now on VHS, DVD and soundtrack available for film soundtrack and original off-broadway version)

Didn't enjoy the story all that much (as it never seemed to find a satisfying balance between comedy and melodrama) but I really liked the music, and admit I was occasionally struck by the poignancy of Hedwig's saga (whether it was meant to be poignant, though, rather than simply satirical, is a good question)

Soon to be playing at a midnight showing near you, this is an instant cult classic. It's a raucous musical about a transsexual from East Berlin who recounts her life through song. And the songs are great; each one of them is memorable and doesn't sound like your typical cheesy "musical" song. John Cameron Mitchell is fantastic as Hedwig.
