It was a dark Hitchcockian comedy, something I'm a sucker for if done right. Done straight, the movie would've been a lame Hand That Rocks the Cradle style thriller, with the predictably insufferable yuppies threatened by the sexuality and directness of an interloper. This film establishes a realistic family in its first scene (somewhat resonant of the Dutch film The Vanishing) of a car on hot day pulling into a gas station. When Michel first meets Harry, in front of a mirror, the ambiguous nature of Harry is introduced --is he, perhaps, a projection of Michel's darkest fantasies, the impulse to follow the road he never traveled (artistically, and erotically)?

This French film and winner of many film festival awards is an overlong and overhyped movie by "THE CRITICS." It's not a bad movie but despite having an original script, it turns into a formulatic suspense thriller that lacks the suspense it builds towards and suffers from a letdown ending. Be warned, the film is dubbed, not subtitled.

This French movie has good dialogue and acting by the cast. Unfortunately the plot is a rehash of many other movies, like "Hand That Rocks the Cradle" and even "Single White Female".
Michel is a family man who's on his way to his summer home with his wife and 3 daughters when he meets Harry at a rest stop. Harry seems ecstatic to see Michel (the two of them apparantly went to high school together), while Michel doesn't recognize the man.
Cutting to the chase, Harry starts hanging out with Michel and his family, and people around him start dying. You can probably guess how the movie is going to turn out within the first half hour. However, I didn't feel like my time was wasted.
