A Viewer's Guide To Stalker
Andrei Tarkovsky's self-identical masterpiece Stalker is still the best choice is you want to approach this brilliant director. Absord the questions it produces, without breaking your head to much. The movie evolves from a concept of man which has to do with almost every ethic topic; religion, happiness, man's bond with nature and even paranormal gifting. Try to let go of the story, instead focus on the detailed emotions and choreography of the image.

I really wanted to like this, and it is interesting on a visual level, but this type of highly symbolic storytelling, with archetypes standing in for characters and conversations steeped in epigrammatic philology, drives me up the wall with its pretense. I much rather absorb the themes and material more intuitively or subconsciously, through onscreen behavior and mise-en-scene. Also, this is one seriously ponderous movie.
