Smart, disturbing, heavy-handed, and at times horrific, "Man Bites Dog"'s message, while slightly forced through all the grotesque ultra-violence, hits home due to the voyeuristic, chilling realism of its filmmaking approach. Benoit is a charismatic, likeable madman, like a homier Hannibal Lecter, and the film doesn't let us forget this .. the only place the film really trips up is the length: "Man Bites Dog" would have been such a fascinating short film, it's too bad that Benoit's exploits are dragged out over the course of an hour and a half. All of Benoit's singing and philosophizing and carousing could've been trimmed to a nice, even hour or so. Still, "Man Bites Dog" is fascinating for those with nerves and guts of steel, and for those willing to take their absolutely tar-black comedy with a side of irony and exposed innards.

Excellent, relentless cinema verite mock-documentary of an amoral serial killer. This film was a commentary of violence in our times, and the scene selections of horrid, uncandid violence will quickly segrogate the audencience for this film. The true beauty of this film are in Benoit's speeches of mundane things, his arrogant views on archetecture and art make this film far better than any I've seen in months. A truly graphic and deplorable man gains our respect throughout, and soon the camera crew get in on the killing... this film isn't for all tastes, but for those who enjoy a good film and will sit through violence, will be treated with a very beautiful piece of art.
