Oliver Stone takes on the business world in this very entertaining outing. Charlie Sheen plays a young stockbroker named Bud Fox whose career is going nowhere fast until he finds a way to talk to the big guy, a stockbroker named Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas) whose mantra is “Greed is good.” In typical 80’s fashion, Bud falls into the good life: women, money, shady business deals and shadier people behind them. Like all of Oliver Stone’s movies, it’s hardly anything subtle. It’s in your face, it’s big and loud and it never lets go. Wall Street isn’t exactly rocket science and although its tried and true formula is entertaining, it’s nothing we’ve never seen before. It’s got a good cast (although most of them do practically nothing) but Douglas steals the show as Gekko. It’s probably not even his best performance (and I’m no fan) but it did earn him an Oscar, and he IS pretty entertaining. A decent watch, if not much more.

Although the characters and performances in this film are a little bit over-the-top, I really enjoyed THE Stockbroker film, while at the same time increasing in my respect (not a whole lot, just a little) for director Oliver Stone. A gritty look at the ups and downs of Wall Street, the indominable power when up and the unshakeable depression when down. A golden performance by Martin Sheen as Charlie Sheen's father (fitting, isn't it?) and good performances all around, it's a somewhat pessimistic and worldy view of business today, but it's sure one heck of a story.
