This would probably be my favorite movie of all time if I were ten. It's basically a sprawling compendium of anything you could possibly want in a Western. Its plot is rather silly, but an excellent cast and almost non-stop action makes this a entertaining ride. When Kevin Costner shoots two guys at opposite ends at once, or when Danny Glover takes his double shotguns, or when Kevin Kline faces Brian Dennehy in a deserted Main street (tumbleweeds and all), it's corny. But I smiled. I smiled, and I winced, and I said "Cool." This movie was everything I made up as a kid. Too bad I had to see it when I had some sense slapped into me.

What? A decent western made in 1985? I did not know about the existence of this film prior to seeing it in a friend's DVD collection. And was amazed at the number of familiar faces in the cast. A great and familiary storyline of Western heroes played by Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Kevin Costner, and Danny Glover. For those of you who haven't seen it yet this is definitely a worthwhile rental - the beautiful scenery must be enjoyed on a large screen television.

I've never been a big fan of the western but there are a few exceptions, this being one of them. I think it's the cast that did it (Kevin Kline, Kevin Costner, Scott Glenn, John Cleese, Danny Glover) who can argue with that. Plus it tells a good, solid story with plenty of laughs and heart. Gotta like it.

The thinking man's western movie. Silverado is great in that it actually has some character development and some complex plot. It introduced (or helped maintain) the stardom of several stars, including Kevin Costner and Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, and Danny Glover. Beautiful score, photography, and a great story.
