Absolutely one of the best silent films ever made, although not a huge success when it premiered. The story of the recapture of a Confederate locomotive during Civil War times, it's the perfect combination of acrobatics, absolute coordination, and (I suspect) luck. Half of the film features Buster Keaton chasing the Northern spies, then the other half is the spies chasing him. If you ever see this at a video store, please rent it.

I started watching this film thinking that it was going to be great. I had really liked the one other silent film that I've seen (Chaplin's "The Kid") and this movie was on Roger Ebert's list of Great Movies and it was on the AFI's list of top 100 comedies (although that particular list does not have an especially good track record). But, needless to say, I was extremely dissappointed. This movie was about an hour too long, and being that the entire film is only 1 hour 16 minutes, that's a very bad thing. This was one of the most boring movies I've ever seen. The sight gags weren't funny, and the drama wasn't affecting. The entire movie is a train chase, which isn't very exciting, especially when stretched out for over an hour, and the fact that both trains looked the same didn't help either.
