These SNL graduates think they can put anything together and people will pay to see it. Unfortunately they're right. They really are funny, but only for 2 minutes at a time. They are sprinters and shouldn't try to run a marathon. I copied my review from Billy Madison and Night at the Roxbury. Why should I do something new if they won't?

It all boils down to this: Molly Shannon is NOT FUNNY!! I never liked this or any of the other annoying characters she played on "Saturday Night Live". How could someone like Norm MacDonald get kicked off that show - for being "not funny" as quoted by former NBC exec Donald Oldmeyer - while Molly Shannon stayed until she decided to leave?

It's a rare thing when a Saturday Night Live sketch makes a good movie and this really isn't a rarity. There are definitely some good moments, funny and sweet. And I was glad they didn't overuse the two Mary Katherine Gallagher trademarks (over-exhuberantly jumping in a pile of chairs or walls or..., or putting her hands under her armpits then smelling them). It was cute and better than most SNL skit films (ie. It's Pat). We'll just leave it at that.

O that I hadn't spent full-price to see this movie! Another in the (sometimes good, but seemingly) endless string of Saturday Night Live spinoff movies, this one ranks somewhere between
"It's Pat" and "Waterboy." Mary Katherine Gallagher (Molly Shannon), in herself a funny SNL character, just can't seem to stretch the laughs to the 92-minute length. Wanting to be kissed by Sky Corrigan (Will Ferrell) like women are kissed in the movies, she becomes convinced that she must become a movie star. Aaaaannnnnnddddd that's about it. Too bad Glynis Johns (the mom in Mary Poppins) agreed to do this film. Sometimes in the case of SNL movies (like Wayne's World, for example) it was a good idea. Other times it's not. Worth a couple of laughs, but enjoyment of this film decreases proportionately with the amount of money that you pay to see it.
