Not a bad little picture. There's some action, some nice animation, some good imagery, and a fairy-tale-like legend here-- all Disney staples. Disney even suceeded in departing from it's "main character loses his/her way, has a self-realization, and returns home in power and glory" template. Good for them! The story, although straightforward and active, left a bit to be desired. In other words, there wasn't much of one. But, all in all, not a poorly-spent 95 minutes.

A big disappointment. The animation isn't up to par, which I could forgive if the story were more dynamic. Once the cast arrives in Atlantis, all sense of mystery and inklings of imagination are put aside. What we get instead is an ancient civilization of what are essentially underwater Native Americans. Throw in the greedy cityfolk who want to callously steal the people's life force for profit, and you've got about 200 hundred identical movies to choose from. But how many feature Michael J. Fox? And are animated? Disney still knows how to entertain; they just need some new inspiration
