The savage satire of Trey Parker and Matt Stone's "South Park" series doesn't translate quite as well to the silver screen. Fortunately, by presenting "South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut" as a musical, it's saved by a series of witty, often hilarious song and dance numbers. Unfortunately, half of the humor of the television show is stripped away by allowing the boys to actually utter the "F" and "S" words bleeped out on the show, and the film sets its satirical sights too broadly, whereas the television show focuses a half-hour on an individual issue and skewers it. Its take on the effect of media on the young fragile minds of children, though, is not to be missed. A little too broad, but ultimately uncompromisingly hilarious.

The musical number by "Terrence and Phillip", the Canadian stars of the film "Asses of Fire" that the Southpark kids go to see, along with the song sung by their high school principal, had me laughing so hard in the theater that I was having trouble breathing.
This was a fairly decent movie version of the hit cartoon by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. I don't get offended easily, and I wasn't by any of the objectionable material in the film. I just didn't think it was all funny. An example would be the relationship between Saddam Hussien and Satan. The scenes were amusing, but I grew tired of it after a while, and the film eventualy ran out of steam. Still, a ballsy and pretty funny movie overall.

ok, to start with, i'm a dedicated fan of the television show .. in case anyone thinks that might affect the review. this is south park in its all out, offensive, horrific, irreverant, irrelevant, not contained by telivision censorship, entirety. i went through the aforementioned range of emotions during the course of the film .. and enjoyed myself immensely. like most comedies, there was hit and miss .. but the hits almost had me in tears, and the misses, i could sit patiently through.

I laughed and I laughed and I laughed.
Make sure you leave your conscience somewhere safe prior to viewing.
HBO should buy the series out from Comedy Central so the really nasty stuff can be said. Regardless I wasn't surprised that the MPAA had a hard time giving this movie an R rating - but heck that's what made half the scenes in the movie so funny.

well shouldn't th title read "South Park"--two words? Anyhow as you can see I thought th movie was just around average. But there are worse ways you could spend an evening. But there are definitely better ways, too, like: listening to Aretha Franklin's _I Never Loved a Man th Way I Love You_ while tapping movie reviews into yr computer. There's a song toward th beginning of th movie named something like "Shut Yr Fucking Face, Uncle-Fucker" that's pretty funny but even though there are funny parts after that part it's pretty much downhill from there. Like when you play Mad Libs w/ yr frenz and there's an escalation from words like "penis" to words like "cocksucking" to words like "assfucker," and after you get past th novelty of using "assfucker" in th company of peers ... well it gets sort of old and boring. Some of th musical parts are pretty good. In particular, th scene toward th end in which th major songs are spliced into an overlapping medley is an impressively slick piece of editing. Yup, for all this movie's taboo-breaking, its musical numbers are no less carefully choreographed than those of _Th Little Mermaid_.

One of the gutsiest, funniest, most strikeing movies I have ever seen. For some it is just a great comedy. For others, there are some real good messages in this masterpiece. I don't think I have ever laughed quite so hard in a movie theatre as I did when I saw South Park.

See it for the songs, they are the saving grace. South Park is an effective scree agaist censorship and frequently hilarious. There are some belaboured jokes that get old after awhile though - particularly the side-plot with Saddam Hussein and Satan.

I wasn't sure about this movie. I've only ever sporadically watched the show, and then I've laughed a bit but mostly just shook my head in wonder. However, after hearing many good reviews and seeing Robin Williams' fabulously funny version of "Blame Canada" on the Oscars, I figured it was time to see it. So (long intro aside) I was surprised at how many times I actually laughed out loud. There were parodies of Star Wars, Broadway Musicals (Les Mis), Disney movies (The Little Mermaid) and even old war movies. The songs were for the most part well done, my favorites being Blame Canada, Up There, and Uncle F**ker (didn't know if I should swear online or not). Scenes with Satan and Saddam Hussein as lovers in Hell, War with Canada, and microchips that stop kids from cursing. Totally irreverent and these filmmakers were obviously having a blast. But definitely NOT for the kiddies or those who have a problem with swearing.

*Note: All curses in this review have been replaced with the phrase "Bob the Nun" so as to not warp your fragile little mind.*
Leave your taste at the door. Or, better yet, leave your taste asleep in bed while you watch this film. this movie has just about every offensive thing you can think of and more bad language then any movie I've ever seen. Oh, and did I mention that it's absolutly hilarious? Well, it is. It has great musical numbers, my favorite being "Uncle Bob the Nun", "Blame Canada", "It's Easy, Mmm-Kay", and "Kyle's Mom is a Bob the Nun". Sadaam Hussein is hilarious with his high pitch voice, and so is Satan, who is very sensitive. All the regular South Park characters are in this movie, with the exception of the Mayor. And yes, Kenny dies. And this movie also has cameo appearances by Eric Idle and Conan O'Brien. "And remember what the MPAA says: Grousome, deplorable violence is okay, as long as you don't say any naughty words!"
