More serious look at the story of Tarzan. Jane is not a blond bimbo but a shy petit young lady. The movie expresses well the ultimate clash of civilisations from different parts of the spectrum. On the one hand the Victorians who considered themselves the peak of advanced civilisation (at that time) while on the other hand Tarzan who have lived in a primitive society.
The differences are obvious, but the similarities are shocking. Very good movie.

I watched this in Spanish last weekend, but think I got the gist of it. The only disappointment was not being able to experience Glenn Close dubbing Andie MacDowell. Someday I'll have to catch that briefly if it's on TV again in English. The movie is lavishly produced, at least, and Christopher Lambert, arguably the worst actor of all time, proves that his physical performances can be decent; it's just his speaking voice that ruins everything.

Popular (at the time) retelling of the Tarzan legend by Edgar Rice Burrows, with Christopher Lambert in the title role. The only real image that sticks out in my memory here (I've only seen it once, ages ago) is of Tarzan urinating from the top of a tree onto the head of a certain primate. As lord of the jungle, he rescues a Belgian captain and learns English. The captain, in turn, learns that Tarzan is the Earl of Greystoke. So, they all travel back to England, where Tarzan makes the predictable societal blunders that an ape would make. Eventually convinced that he will never fit in to that world, he takes Jane (Andie MacDowell, voice thanks to Glenn Close) back to the jungle with him. Not too bad, could have been better.
