i've never actually seen "pretty woman" in its entirety, and thus was not part of the "when is there going to be a sequel?" fanatical contingent.
the movie falls into the grouping of "pretty much what i was expecting", a fun, sometimes sappy, sometimes touching romance between two stars who pair well on screen.

Enjoyable romantic comedy that teams Richard Gere and Julia Roberts back together for what was supposed to be "Pretty Woman 2". Thankfully Hollywood decided to drop that particularly hare brained idea and instead of presenting audiences with a brain dead sequel, they ended up with this original and funny script.

I must have seen Pretty Woman six times. It was one of my favorite romantic Cinderella movies of all time. But the finest pairing in the world couldn't have saved this movie. Richard Gere looks strained and embarrassed. Julia Robert irritates as a woman who cannot make a commitmentment and runs away from bridegroom after bridegroom leaving pain and hurt in her wake. This is a comedy???

Horrid movie which is about 50 000kms away from Pretty Woman. Whoever termed it the unofficial sequel needs their head smacked in! It consists of a boring script.. The most witty part being the name of the journalist's (Richard Gere) cat "Italics". Richard's and Julia's performance was quite average. Ain't it about time Richard retired, or got a face lift?
Despite such good performances in Pretty Woman, and The Pelican Brief..Julia Roberts now has me wondering why she's one of Hollywood's best paid female actors... Will she ever choose a challenging role to play, again? Wait until this comes out on video, and costs you no more than $3 to hire before you watch it. Even then, it'll have you wanting to run away!

They still have chemistry (Julia and Richard that is). And this movie is fun and romantic, but it's not Pretty Woman. That seems to be the major critisism here but I don't see that as a problem. It's been 10 years since Pretty Woman and they've changed and that's reflected in their performances. If you're a romantic at heart, see it. Bottom line.

The only reason I saw this was because I was dragged to see it. The Richard Gere and Julia Roberts thing was over after Pretty Woman, so who would want to wake up the sleeping dog? Very stupid movie.

I suppose it was inevitable that Runaway Bride would be compared mercilessly to Pretty Woman. The director re-teamed up with the two leads. Same movie, right? Well, yes and no. Gere once again plays the dashing silver-haired fox and comes to rescue the gauche Julia Roberts. As m mother-in-law says, "You know why Richard Gere never won an oscar? He doesn't diversify," which I'd have to agree with. Predictably, at the end of the film, the two fall in love and live happily ever after. (Sorry if I ruined the experience for anyone). This film is the story of a rural Maryland woman (Roberts) who has planned wedding after wedding, and then left her betrothed standing at the altar while she made her escape(s). Gere, a reporter for a large New York newspaper, agrees to take on a story to find out what's behind the whole ordeal. It's all right, but movies like this can only be good to a point. I enjoyed it in a "I'm with the wife, and she's enjoying it" kind of way.
