The story about contaminated water in a small community in Massachusetts, this is a pretty good film. It does lack some originality seeing as The Rainmaker dealt with a similar subject, but then again the wonderful film Erin Brockovich came out a few years after this. Still, a worthwhile watch and decent acting by Travolta.

I found this movie below par. While its not a total loss its too slow, and doesnt keep u interested for the most part. John Travolta has had some bombs in the last few years, although this is considerably better than Battlefield Earth which is a joke of a film.

Compelling story of slick lawyer Jan Schlichtmann taking on a case in Northern Massachusetts against an industrial factory suspected of leaking toxic waste into drinking water sources. Through the course of the film, he becomes more and more concerned about other people, and less and less concerned about himself-- somewhat of a cross between A Christmas Carol and Erin Brockovich, so to speak. It was also of interest to my wife and me personally, becuase she is from Massachusetts and has been to the specific place several times and because during one of our stays in Massachusetts, John Travolta was scheduled to appear at a local mall (we went, but we arrived to late and he had already gone). A Civil Action is one of those David and Goliath stories that make you feel really good, but this has an ending that you don't quite expect. Well worth seeing.
