This movie is about vicious circles, how being beaten down can destroy the good in a man, leaving something that is not even a man, but just some mean dog of a man. And: What a trip! I thought I was watching 'Of Mice and Men'. I kept watching the clock, thinking: 'He better leave the family so this movie can really get started.' Anyway, I was confused, but: I did get really interested in the story right away due to Henry Fonda's strong acting. Please also see my book: MEAT by Mark Kilgore. Yo what happened to the last 50 pages of Steinbeck's novel? The final scene with the breast feeding must have excited their Puritanical minds back then. So instead they just ended it with Tom's grand ol' speech. Not a good idea in terms of forming a cohesive whole out of the story. It wasn't supposed to just be about Tom. Plus, despite what everyone says, the acting in this movie is very poor I think. Stilted, unreal, awkward
