Even though after I saw Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, and being familiar with the work of literature, I regard it as more faithful to the novel, I still have to regard the 1931 Frankenstein as perhaps the most classic horror film of all time. Boris Karloff's visage and personna in the film are just completely unforgettable. Directed and largely created by the legendary James Whale (whose story is told in Gods and Monsters), it finds itself on the AFI list of 100 Greatest American films. If you haven't seen it, you really should.
