This was a light fluffly chick flick good for a fun escape. But even my husband had a few good laughs. Sandra Bulluck was adorable. And who cares if this was not a "politically correct" way for her to react? We all know that her character had to develop more of her feminine side. So what's the big deal here?

Yes, this movie made me laugh. It was light, funny, charming (assuming you like the leads, which I do), happy, and fluffy. Nothing wrong with that (unless it's your steady diet I guess). I have always been a fan of Sandra Bullock and this for me is right up there with While You Were Sleeping. It was predictable but I enjoyed the story and the route it took to get to the end. I feel I need to defend this film after the first two reviews. And with all due respect to both reviewers (Dok this especially means you, the respect part not the issue part) I have to take issue. I didn't see any thing that made me think she put herself in the submissive role by the end. He wasn't her boss, just the case leader and there were already sparks between them, she just let them out a bit. And there's nothing wrong with being a bit girly if you're a girl (and I am). A woman can be smart, strong, AND feminine if she wants (I'll get back down off that soap box again now). It's not a submissive act. Benjamin Bratt's role as male lead was kind of generic. Their chemistry was just ok. Michael Caine on the other hand is just always good regardless of the material, (Much like Gene Hackman and Ed Harris). I guess it all boils down to the fact that this is a Sandra Bullock movie, and if you don't like her, you won't like this much. I do and I did.

This is a perfect example of your average CHICK FLICK. Predictable, sappy, and typical would best describe this film. As for the Sandra Bullock debate, I would have to say that this was actually one of her better performances...but that really isn't saying much. Anyway, watch it only if you're desperate.

Flawed but funny little story of manly FBI agent Sandra Bullock who must infiltrate the Miss United States pageant to try and catch a serial killer. I have to admit, it's a funny premise, and it creates several very funny situations. William Shatner is a hoot as the pageant host, while Michael Caine is in an odd role as a contestant coach. So to sum up: funny premise, funny situations. With that, though, the flaws start infecting the movie. Everyone just seems a bit too black or white with their role-doesn't seem like there's really any inbetween like in real life. For example, Candice Bergen's character seems a bit too annoyed with Bullock's character, when if she's really as shrewd as she makes out to be, would be more than happy to have Bullock there to protect the contestants. Like when the "guy in the hat" has a handgun in his jacket, and Bullock tackles him, they all go after her rather than the guy. (?) At the same time, I noticed that although Bullock does a great job with the character, she seems to make the switch from masculine FBI agent to gorgeous beauty queen just a bit too easily. I suppose all in all, it's a funny movie to those content to not think about it all that much.

Although Miss Congeniality provided many humorous events and situations it must be watched without any desire for the classic provisions of art or literature. For those who believe that movies should not attempt to be literate or have redemptive value then this is your flick, and stop reading.

Although a series of characterizations bothered me I should focus on the finale of the film to demonstrate my concern. After spending the whole film developing her character as a caring, intuitive and strong woman more capable than her superiors Sandra demeans all women by submitting to a relationship with her boss. Her relationship with him to the end of the movie consisted of her being condescended to, ignored, insulted and otherwise put down. The character prevails through all this only to put herself into a submissive position at the end.

Very comic with a disappointing social message.

Not too bad, kind of humorous. Not necessarily my cup of tea of choice. My book, MEAT by Mark Kilgore, is THE BOMB. Please visit it on AMAZON.COM and in bookstores (probably by request).

I saw this again and had to raise it from a 6. Not only is Bullock's gangliness funny, but Candice Bergen puts in a great performance as the villain/show director. Supporting actresses are decent and even William Shatner is funny. Somebody please stop me before I raise this to an 8.

you know. Bullock isn't actually annoying in this movie. But that isn't enough of a reason to sit through it.
