This macho action classic would be one great action movie if no one ever spoke. Unfortunately, that's not the case... and with a cast that includes Arnold, Jesse ''The Body'' Ventura, Apollo Creed and the freakin' writer of the Lethal Weapon movies, acting is not a top priority. Schwarzenegger plays Dutch, an almost-two-dimensional commando who leads his crack team of one-dimensional caricatures into central America to rescue a politician... or something. Instead, they just blow up everythign and decide to head back home... but they find themselves stalked by a mysterious invisible prey. Very much a guy's film; the only woman in the movie is slapped around and called a whore for much of the film. This wouldn't be so bad if the characters had more than one character trait each and if the actors weren't so damn bad. But (and I don't think this is a spoiler to anyone) eventually the cannon fodder is fed and the film becomes a well-handled game of cat-and-mouse. Granted, there's no doubt in anyone's mind how this is going to finish, either. It works pretty much like all of Arnold's heyday movies and I wouldn't expect any less (or any more, for that matter).

This movie was I think the greatest sci-fi in the 80's (besides ET). The story starts out as an alien vehicle crashes into the South American jungle. Arnold Schwarzenegger shows up to destory some terrorists and then gets caught in a war with a mandibled predator. Great Sci-Fi!

Interesting action vehicle premise with an Alien vs. Schwarzenegger feel.

ARNOLD in this fast paced sci-fi thriller. The action never lets up. A winner for fans, and this just misses my top 100.

While I was growing up, I believed Arnold Schwartzenegger to be the "end-all be-all" of all actors. I lived to see such films as Raw Deal, Commando, and Predator. I couldn't wait to see a bunch of soldiers walking through jungles and being killed by a mysterious holographic being that spews a mysterious green substance. With age, my tastes have changed a bit (just a bit!). I suppose that Predator is a good movie to watch with a bunch of friends in a setting conducive to manly men and belching. You don't have to pay very much attention to Predator to understand it, and it makes you feel good when Arnold kills stuff.
