Indeed one of the top 3 films of 1998. A love story about the love story of "Romeo and Juliet." Paltrow, Affleck was better than I expected. And Tim Wilkinson plays a quite fantastic role in the film since the Full Monty.

Brilliantly acted, casted, and interwoven with Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet". Joseph Fiennes does a spellbinding job in portraying a young William Shakespeare in a doomed love affair with the to be wed Viola De Lesseps played by Gwyneth Paltrow. Geoffrey Rush, Ben Affleck, and Judi Dench also deserve to have their names mentioned as excellent co-stars. The 1998 season ends with an enthusiastic 10 for this film! (And thank goodness for having studied Romeo and Juliet twice in high school! )

Somewhat entertaining. The whole movie focuses on this strange reality vs. theatre balance, and its cool!
And no matter who you go with you'll definitely want to give her a long romantic kiss afterwards.. bear in mind
I had to lower my review after it won movie of the year. no way!

This movie was over rated. While it was enjoyable, it certainly wasn't a movie I would nominate for an Oscar. Is it because Shakespeare elicits this kind of response? Do people realize that it is OK to say how they really feel? Paltrow glows I agree. But I walked out of this movie saying "So?".

What an amazing film. Granted it does help to have some background in Shakespeare's work but it's not necessary. Love, passion (not just the lust kind), humor, and treachery are just a few of the ingredients. The acting all the way around was just right. Judi Dench as Queen Elizabeth made such an impression that she received the Academy award for a performance that only has a few minutes of screen time. It was definitely deserving of its Oscars. Besides I'm a sucker for this stuff.

Suprisingly good (to me) film about the man Shakespeare. I had heard all of the hype about it and was skeptical, but I was pleasantly suprised when I saw it. My favorite part would have to be during the final play where the Juliet asks, "Where is my Romeo?" and the lady screams out "He's DEAD!" Really the only thing I have against it is that it drags a bit in some places, but Shakespeare in Love is well onto my top 100 list.
