a true cult classic, you really haven't seen RHPS until you've seen it at a midnight showing where they really do it right.

OK, so now you know, I was one of those people that lined up for midnight shows and yelled at the screen and threw things like hot dogs and never sat in the back row. Of course, that was years ago, but my fondness for Rocky Horror stays. On its own it really isn't that great of a movie, but as a "show" it is fabulous. Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Meatloaf, what a cast. Fun songs (yes, I had the soundtrack, on LP no less). The ultimate cult movie. You should see it (in the theater if possible) at least once.

What is it about these cult movies that everyone jumps on the bandwagon? Is there anyone out there who truly did find something good in this movie? Think about it before you answer.

More of a cinema event than just a movie in itself. It's achieved amazing cult status by the countless revivals and audience-participation extravaganzas that happen from time to time. It' the simple story of a young couple, Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon, whose car breaks down and who find shelter at a remote old castle not far from the road. While there, they meet a host of unusual characters, not the least of which is Tim Curry, a transvestite Transylvanian named Dr. Frank N. Furter. I didn't really have the opportunity to attend one of the Rocky Horror Picture Show "happenings,"-I had to try and glean the experience from (gasp!) VHS. I know, I know-die-hard fans wouldn't hear of it. I'm sure I would probably have had more fun in an event like that, but even as it was on VHS, I didn't really see the great appeal of the story. It's one of those films that you should probably see for the cultural significance, and better if it's in a theater, but I didn't see a whole lot of merit here.

"The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is a wierd movie. That about sums it up. Tim Curry is even odder than usual as Dr. Frank N. Furter, a cross-dressing Transylvanian (or perhaps a sweet transvestite, as the song goes). Various other people play various other odd roles (i wouldn't expect Susan Sarandan to be in a movie like this, but she is). The songs are funny (my favorite is "The Time Warp") and a lot of the lines are funny ("Rocky!" "Janet!" "Dr. Scott!" "Brad!" "Rocky!" "Janet!" "Dr. Scott!" "Brad!" "Rocky!" "Dr. Scott!"). But this movie is very uneven. Some parts are hilarious, other parts are just plain wierd. Still worth watching, though.

it's just a jump to the left....

Watchable and recommendable, if only for its status as part of American High School culture. If you are over 20 when you see this, it is just not the same. Likewise, you need to see it at the theater, with the props and lots of people yelling. Watching it at home on the VCR would be like ordering a pizza without the cheese, sauce, and toppings.
