I remember watching Project X at a Saturday get-together with some friends right when it came out on video. I only saw it that once, but I remember that I liked the story but wasn't too impressed with the movie as a whole. It's the story of a top-secret government project that trains chimpanzees to fly airplanes. Grounded pilot Matthew Broderick is their trainer, and eventually learns that the chimps are being subjected to cruel tests aimed at learning the limits of human endurance. He teams up with Helen Hunt, the scientist who teaches the chimps sign language, to free the primates from certain death. A good story is ruined at the end, however, when the animals nearly cause a nuclear disaster. Oops… darn monkeys! Better for kids than for adults.
