Opinions will vary greatly here. I'm a stone-daddy and heavily into personal freedom. I'm also a big Floyd fan. These Pink Floydians' (Roger Waters, and perhaps David Gilmour) creativity level is OFF THE SCALE! www.meatbook.net I admit that this a "cult classic", but I am in that Pink Floyd "cult" then. I admit that I love to watch (even just listen and occasionally glimpse) the movie. The music is THE BEST SH*T EVER. I can't love THE WALL any harder than I do. This movie just doesn't grow old. I just don't tire of it. What's up with that? It just has a strength all its own.

Needless to say, Parker's cinematic adaptation of the classic rock LP is far less powerful (not to mention less interesting) if watched while sober. Still, some disturbing images flicker about occasionally.

Worth seeing so you know what people are talking about. They
say it is literally just one big acid trip

Great idea (music video movie!), worthwhile dramatic concept (guy building a psychological wall around himself throughout life), and a treat for cult film fanatics, but me personally, I never have liked the music of Pink Floyd and much as I was hoping this movie would convince me otherwise (I tried to have an open mind), it did not. It's just fragmentary, incomplete-sounding experimental rock that I did not find enjoyable or interesting at all. I was bored with the movie after about 10 minutes, but trekked on to complete my duties as a viewer. There's some creativity to the sets, animation, and overall unconventional artsy tone, but for me it failed as a melding of audio and visual storytelling.
Plus I don't drop acid, so...my loss, I guess.

In my opinion, you're better off just listening to the plain old album then trying to make a lot of sense of this movie.

This is the film that goes along with the album of the same name. A dark, pessimistic musical told from the point of view of a rock musician named Pink. It follows the chain of events by which he constructs his title-inspiring wall, a metaphor for his isolation in life. The foundations for the wall were formed in his childhood, during the song "Brick in the Wall" complete with the cruel schoolmasters. We have here a visual feast and a lot of great music, but it plays out more like a rock video that won't end. Doesn't really have any resolution other than the protagonist's increased isolation. Worth a look to fans of the group, however.

This is a great film, which shows the struggle between sanity and insanity. It is also remarkable how they created a film from an album. I think Pink Floyd did a great job with the music. Roger Waters's creativity has molded this movie into a great cult classic that is admired by Floyd fans everywhere.
