One of the biggest money-makers ever is also one of the biggest rip-offs ever in my mind. I remember thinking E.T. GO HOME, not PHONE HOME!

Good movie but in my opinion not Spielberg's best. Too much hype and if i watched it now , would give it a lower rating.

Absolutely classic science fiction, and my wife's very favorite film. Henry Thomas is an intelligent, creative boy living with his big brother, little sister, and single mom. While looking for something in the shed one evening, he meets the friend of a lifetime: an alien being left behind and without a way home. They learn to communicate, Elliot eventually introduces the being to his siblings, and about that time word leaks out of the alien's presence. What ensues is a hunt for E.T. by the authorities, followed, upon his capture, by health-threatening tests. One of the great movie moments is the escape of E.T., followed by him helping Elliot and his bicycle to fly. The movie of 1982.

This is one of those movies that are widely considered great movies and are very popular, but are just mediocre. I think that this was probably the low-point, quality-wise, in Steven Spielberg's career, although it was obviously a high-point box-office-wise. This is what is called a "heartwarming" movie. It's about a cute little boy who has a cute little alien but he can't tell any grown-ups about it or they'll take the alien away. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, that doesn't seem to be a very original plot and I have seen about 3 billion movies aimed at 1-9 year olds with that same plot. I don't see why this movie is regarded so highly.

The pre-digital effects were believable, and the drama had the ability to bring out emotions. OK, I didn't cry, but I wanted to help my buddy ET. If you see this as a child, it makes you powerful, like you matter and you can contribute.

Good movie, but there must be a reason why I haven't seen it since it came out in the theaters.

This flick is timeless and will remain so for a very long time.
This flick crosses the lines of extra terrestrials to humanity at its best.
The final moments will get you crying. If not you are not certified human.

I don't know why people went completely nuts for this movie.
I thought the plot and acting sucked.

I still can't understand why just about all of my friends loved this one back in the days.

Not as great as all that. Some amusing moments and the kids act well for their age. Succeeds as a kiddie film anything more it's not.

A kids movie, and great for adults too! I rarely cry at movies but this is one exception!

I've seen this movie once. I hated the hell out of it, but it gets a decent rating for imagination.
