I have seen it several times, and never felt that it was too long. I know that objectively 180 minutes is a long time, but this story moves along well.

Saw this movie when I was young, real young, and it is a over three hours. I got up zero times. It is still as good today, mostly better, than the last time I seen it. I made my girlfriend watch it, and see loved it. It's a perfect movie for both sexes, a little love a little action. It's got a high rating "from me".

The most boring movie to ever win Best Picture at the Oscars? It's quite possible. Kevin Costner's "Dances With Wolves" was the recipient of a truckload of accolades, but this dull, feature-length snoozefest is unlikely to send the viewer deep into thought - and if it seems as if the person next to you IS deep in thought, shake them. It's likely that they're sleeping. A fine cure for insomnia, but little else. When Costner stops tackling historical dramas (and sappy stuff like "Dragonfly") I'll give him a chance again. And anybody who wants to hop up on a soapbox and preach to me about how I didn't get it can go right ahead - call me shallow, but I need to be entertained.

Almost a 10 - great scenery, quiet and thoughtful film about a man alone, love, the indian plight in America. Kevin Costner put together a great film here

Beautiful cinematography....shame about the plot...Costner's contribution: running around looking silly with a bunch of trained wolves. Oh yeah and his mostache.

Costner's Finest. A stirring, well made movie. Mary McDonough was excellent.

Truly a movie with epic proportions. Kevin Costner is superb in this dramatic look at the British army and native American Indians. I totally disagree with those that have claimed that the film is slow at times because Dances with Wolves pays a great deal of attention to detail and purpose. More then deserving of it's acclaim and a movie that will definitely stand the test of time.

I think Kevin Costner is a decent actor though not in the top 50 in my book. This however is one of his top movies, as it keeps u interested and the costumes are cool.

Well done, cinematography. Kevin Costner's best work!

Out of all of Kevin Costners misses (Waterworld, The Postman), Dances with Wolves is certainly his big hit. John Dunbar, Costner's character, volunteers for a frontier position with the Army after serving bravely in the Civil War. His whole life changes drastically because of that decision. He comes to know, understand, and love the Native American people as much as the rest of the country hates them. I can understand how some might not enjoy this film for how it makes common citizens in that period appear like ignorant dolts, but after becoming a little familiar with the history of the time, it's not too hard for me to believe. The AFI voted it #75 on their list of America's Greatest movies.

Not up to the critics claim. Long & gruelling movie. www.outcrybookreview.com/meat.htm

Kevin Costner has, contrary to popular belief, made a few movies of substance. "Dances With Wolves" numbers among these. Unfortunately, this is an unusual case where the bulk of the movie is substance, and suffers from not enough style. Not that a movie about Civil-War era American-Indian relations needs to be directed with style, but something has to be added to benefit this dull bore of a movie. Costner is Dunbar, an American soldier fascinated with Indian culture. Once this is established, very little happens. It's one of the very worst Oscar winners in history, especially of those that recieved the prestigious Best Picture award.

A cool movie about the Indian's and the White man trying to take over their land. Pretty gory though.
