Hugh Grant's roommate provides the necessary comic relief.

Absolutely loved this film. The storyline was brilliant, Hugh & Julia were good, the screenplay, the charcters, what can I say, were all very good.

the comparisons to "four weddings and a funeral" are obvious .. some touching, and some humorous moments. but, if you want a film about celebrity and everyperson relationships, check out "roman holiday" ..

It's a cute movie, but 4 weddings is definitely better.

Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant are paired together for this great romantic comedy that is reminiscient of "Four Weddings and a Funeral". It's probably not the fairest comparison (Four Weddings was probably a bit sharper in its writing) but Notting Hill has its moments. For the genre a respectable and humorous romp.

It had the 4 weddings and a funeral element to it. But it was new, and interesting.

its just okay. not a fan of julia roberts or it would probably get a higher rating, more of a drama than a comedy. hugh grant i like .

Pretty good film with an interesting premise: that of a blockbuster superstar actress falling in love and attempting to reconcile differences with a non-celebrity. Julia Roberts (fittingly) plays the superstar, and Hugh Grant plays a down-to-earth bookstore owner. One day, she strolls into his store while on location in England. She buys a book, charming Grant almost to death, and strolls out. Minutes later, he exits to buy some juice, turns, and bumps into Roberts again, spilling the juice all over her blouse. Then she must accompany him to his house to clean up, and a romance begins to blossom. The love road hits some speedbumps, however, when Grant is exposed to the harsh realities of dealing with celebrity, such as Grant not understanding Roberts "fibbing" about their relationship to avoid publicity, or with the hoards of photographers outside his door after her location becomes public knowledge. Sweet and charming, much like many of Hugh Grant's ventures. Worth a look, but it probably ought to be with your wife or girlfriend.
