Damon and Affleck's "Good Will Hunting" screenplay still comes off like the product of two moderately intelligent loafers who got lucky as opposed to the career-defining zenith of two geniuses, but it's still an exquisitely performed, easily digestible drama that leaves one with that pesky warm and fuzzy feeling at film's end. Aside from one too many gutter-scraping comedic moments (although Robin Williams's improvisation about his wife's farts has a sort of peculiar sweetness to it), "Good Will Hunting" is still a good experience, if slightly long. It's also commendable for not taking any infuriating, "Pay It Forward"-style dramatic U-turns like randomly killing off a character, so kudos for that. Very watchable, as far as dramas go.

Perhaps I wasn't in the proper mood to enjoy this Oscar nominated/winner to the fullest. While it was a great drama - not sure if it was deserving of the number of accolades it got. And Matt Damon and Ben Affleck still come across as two cocky punks who got lucky. Perhaps I'll appreciate their "genius" in some other film.

As much as it bothers me that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck (two guys way too young to receive the recognition they did) this was a moving film. An intriguing plot which is quite different then anything I had ever seen. Truly an excellent drama.
