ok, the f/x were amazing .. however, i had seen the trailers, and i had read the book, and was waiting to be blown away .. i wasn't by a long shot ..

The movie that took the 1993 summer by storm! I remember watching this film in awe and once wasn't enough - I had to go back for seconds. Jeff Goldblum also has great lines and made him a must have for the sequel. Great music from John Williams tops off this monumental suspense/action film. While the sequel pales in comparison to the original evidently there will be more dinosaur mayhem to come in the year 2000.

Over-rated - did not like this film

I'll never understand why it did so well.

The dinosaurs are the stars of the show. Everything else levelled on mediocrity.

Another great Spielberg movie! It was intense and exciting, with great writing, although the book is even better! I loved the scene where Goldblum gives that speech at dinner about the ethics of what the scientists did. Could he have said it any better?

Dynosaurs devour people in this park of terror. The special effects are incredible. The story and the acting, however, made me feel that I was again watching Godzilla in the afternoon with my young child.

A landmark movie that has lost some of it's luster over the years. Still a good movie and the effects are great. Just can't call it a great movie as the plot is sometimes silly and the movie is predictable. Still good fun.

An absolutely amazing spectacle by the great Steven Spielberg. It was a cinema phenomenon on its release, enjoying some of the most secretive (but secretive-to-make-it-more-attractive) and then aggressive marketing of any film in history. Genetic engineers find DNA in dinosaur blood that ancient mosquito was feasting on when trapped in amber. From that, and filling in gaps with frog DNA, they are able to create new dinosaur eggs. They incubate and hatch them, then create an amusement park/zoo attraction featuring the modern dinosaurs. Things go dreadfully wrong when the dinosaurs don't take kindly to their surroundings, especially when plagued by pesky humans in Ford Explorers. After it takes off, it's always a rollercoaster ride of thrills. The best dinosaur special effects that I've ever seen. Really cool movie.

Edwards  [ 8.5 ]    [ add to preferred ]    [ email this review to a friend ]

Visually it's a 10+, and the sophisticated arguments about logic and evolution and what not are intriguing as they were in the book. Jeff Goldblum is the hero in every way, and thankfully Crichton realized this when he wrote the sequel. On a disappointing level, it dulls the hard edged violence and high death count of the book, apparently for that golden $ PG-13 rating

DeadCanadian  [ 8.0 ]    [ add to preferred ]    [ email this review to a friend ]

This movie is Steven Spielberg's adaptation of Michael Crichton's great book with the same name (Jurassic Park, not Crichton) and from hearing this, you'd expect a great movie, and this movie isn't great, but it's still pretty good. The dinosaurs are great and are, in my opinion, the best movie dinosaurs ever (The Lost World included). The humans in this movie are basically dino fodder, but they're dino fodder that acts well, so I can live with that. Also, a lawyer gets eaten while he's sitting on a toilet, and you have to love that. "Yeah, but if the Pirates of the Carribean breaks down, the pirates don't eat the tourists!"

Watching this movie seven years later, it still impressed me. At the time it was a breakthrough in technology. Now it is a much criticized film BUT... it remains a nice film to see.

JP 1 stands out because it was ORIGINAL. Jeff Goldblum played a good mathemetician, as did Sam Neill as the good doctor Grant. The Raptors were menacing, and the good old T-Rex came to save the day (not on purpose lol, but he did) at the end when it looked like everyone was going to die.
Sure, it had flaws, and the two sequels were really nothing new, except slightly improved CGI (an honorable mention to the Spinosaurus in JP III which was pretty cool, and the Pterodactyl's in the big bird cage, too) and some rehashed ideas.
Now apparently we can expect a JP 4, which is supposed to have 'new ideas and a new setting' which I'll believe when I see it.
The first one was still the best one. (But the little boy deserves to be slapped for his snottiness.)
