This movie got a lot of hype and generally deserved much of it. Haley Joel Osment continues to provide us with interesting performances, even though we all know he is still learning. I wasn't altogether blown away, but I was sitting at the edge of my seat while trying to figure it all out.

Bruce Willis' fine dramatic star turn and Toni Collette's performance as a lovingly harried single parent are two of "The Sixth Sense"'s greatest asset, although its biggest trump card happened to be its ending. Though bookended by two tremendously effective scenes, "The Sixth Sense" falls flat. Haley Joel Osment's precocious little zombie-spotting dear isn't anything special, and all the hoopla--- an OSCAR nomination? Lawdamighty!--- is largely undeserved. Bruce Willis, the film's real star, isn't to blame for any of this. M. Night Shyamalan's breakthrough is a spotty, plodding affair, sporting nothing more than an inspired prologue and epilogue and Willis and Collette's performances. The rest of the film loads up on melodramatic gobbeldygook that does nothing but BORE.

Just when I thought I was immune to the heebie-jeebies, this movie comes along. This is an impressive and refreshingly original debut for director M. Night Shyamalan. Youngster Haley Joel Osment was remarkable as the kid who sees dead people, and Bruce Willis proves he can do more than action flicks.
The ending was shocking and touching at the same time, though some may not buy it, especially those who don't pay attention to subtle details. But there was no cheating done, meaning no plot holes, which is more than most movies of this type can say.

This is some serious after school special material. Haley Joel Osment is so ridiculously annoying in this movie, and his gums... HIS GUMS ARE FREAKING HUGE MAN. I just wanna brush'em. The depressed psychologist that Bruce Willis plays is so over the top and predictable it makes me want to gag myself. This is the suspense genre's equivalent of Over the Top. I had a hard time stomaching the whole movie. I think it just got popular to like it and then it caught on like wildfire, just like Creed is to the music world. This movie was so generic, that it almost had me wondering if it was purposefully setup like a Sunday night ABC drama. This is the only ghost movie in history that is worse than 13 Ghosts.

The primary reason for seeing this is the big twist at the end. Unfortunately once the secret's out, you realize there isn't much to this movie. Bruce Willis acts well. But as a whole, this is one-note movie.

general response to this film seems to run the entire range from crap to genius .. i tended towards the latter, but did have my reservations.
haley joel osment does a terrific job as the young torturred boy, and bruce willis does more than a decent job in working as the boy's sidekick. the film as a whole has a feeling of having been run through the hollywood washing machine once too many times, but is still very entertaining ..
--
after a second viewing, the film impressed me even further .. i've knocked it up a half a point in the ratings ..

"You jump like a girl" - dairian's comment about my jumpiness during this movie - as he had the misfortune of sitting beside me. I don't handle these movies very well - but they are great fun.
A dark movie that uses the cute little kid to mold its dark twisted vision. Great plot line with a good performance from Bruce Willis - a nice change from his usual action movie persona. Big thumbs up from this duck.

A movie comes around once in a long while that actually grabs my attention and makes me sit at the edge of my seat throughout the whole movie, leaving me at the end realizing that what I thought was really happening didn't actually happen. The boy played an excellent role as did Bruce Willis, and I would have to say that I will definitly be seeing this movie again in the theatre.

The whole movie is centered around the "surprise ending". From what I've seen and heard, when one is surprised by the ending, and think that it's brilliant, one generally loves the film. But if you know the ending of Sixth Sense, this movie seems to drag on, and I was pretty bored most of the time. I just wasn't very interested in the surprise, and didn't find that there was much more to this film.
Good performances by Willis, Osment and others, and a few intense moments that were well directed, help to keep Sixth Sense from being as bad as it could have been. After seeing the ads, I thought Osment would be real irritating, but he surprised me, and I think he will probably give us good to great performances for a long time to come.
Sixth Sense is rated as one of the best movies of all time on the Internet Movie Database. I happen to believe that the public should be able to judge movies better than that.

What is reality? From the beginning, the pieces of the puzzle slowly start to fit together. You will have to pay attention in order to understand. Somewhere in the middle, I went "aha". But my husband didn't get it until the very end. Strange but interesting movie.

The Sixth Sense was a great film with an interesting plot. The special effects were brilliant, however not many were used. I suppose this stopped people from being of the movie thinking it was a total gore/horror flick.
It still created enough "on edge" frights and plenty of "Eww...yuck"ing, though. The acting and the script were the best elements of the film. It was nice to see Bruce Willis not holding a firearms of some type. Haley Joel Osment is a prodigy and has an unbelievably intense face. And, Toni Collete made Australians proud once again with her realistic portrayal of Cole's mother. You'll want to go see this film twice.

Fairly boring up until the much-lauded finale. Looking back, it mostly fits together, but that's no excuse for a pedestrian story embellished with unnecessary shock sequences. I don't get the fuss over Haley Joel Osment --he was merely adequate. Toni Collette shines as his mother though.

I probably heard a little too much about this film beforehand. It was a lot of fun, but not quite as good as I'd hoped.
Let me come right out and say, I did not like the kid. Sorry America. I thought Bruce Willis though did a very nice job.
As with many films, once you catch onto a big plot flaw, it's hard to let go of the negative thoughts. In this case, for the big plot-twist to have worked (and I'll try not to spoil it), the audience has to assume that Bruce Willis' character was a complete idiot for the 3- month-or-so span over which the film takes place. Did he never ever have a conversation with his wife? (Never had a phone conversation?) Did they always just pass like two ships at night? Never try to interact with any other living people? Did he never take a shower or change his clothes? Hmm...

I loved this movie. I was blown away by the ending. I knew going in that there was a big twist at the end and I wasn't able to figure it out. Haley Joel Osment's performance was truly breathtaking. He needed to show a lot of complex emotions without speaking (something I don't think many adult actors could accomplish very well) and he succeeded in being scared, sweet, hopeful, heartbreaking without ever seeming false.

One funny thing I saw in connection with this movie was on the Conan O'Brien show, when he actually hadn't seen the film, and Andy Richter told him all about the ending. You should have seen his face. He was so crestfallen. Pretty funny. Anyway, The Sixth Sense was good-- a bit eerie and completely engrossing. Haley Joel Osment, although young and relatively untempered, did a great job in his role. Everyone's seen parodies of his performance, so I'll spare you from a plot summary. However, although it's become trite, the ending is the whole story. Very good.

The hype regarding Sixth Sense and the notion that it was a "genuinely" scary film has made me realise how deprived we have been in regards to the quality of recent horror/thriller films. The Sixth Sense was so pedestrian i found myself praying for Tim Curry to jump out of a closet in a clown suit and eat that annoying little bastard Hayley Joel Osmond. The much lauded ending is clever but in all sincerity the film is very slow and very tame. Long live shithouse adaptations of Stephen King novels.

This is a very good film. Bruce Willis shows that he can do a lot more than "Die Hard"-like movies and Haley Joel Osment is the best child actor I've ever seen. I was expecting him to be annoying and a bad actor, but he was really good! The surprise ending was, well, surprising. The cinematography and lighting was very good as well. This isn't really a horror movie as many people say, but It's mainly a drama and maybe a bit of a psychological thriller. This movie is one of the best new movies I've seen.

A brill film! I saw this as soon as it came out at the cinema and fortunatley had no clue to what the twist was. Anyone who has not seen this film I suggest you avoid finding out any clues to this film (the twist at the end makes it a lot more enjoyable)and the little boy has such a sad face that I was really touched by this film too!

At least "Mercury Rising" wasn't hampered by lots of buzz and hype. Everyone knew that one sucked. But with "The Sixth Sense," no one seems to really see how unimpressive the film is. The opening and closing sequences are brilliantly executed, though, and Bruce Willis gives one of his finest performances to date. It's a shame the rest of the film isn't nearly as strong as Willis' performance or its teasing beginning and end scenes. The middle of the film is just pedestrian and boring. It's barely atmospheric, and just plods along at a ho-hum pace, throwing in a few spooky ghost scenes to keep the viewer barely interested. Willis is the star here, and he supports the movie, keeping it from getting a lower rating. He's really broken out of his tough-guy action movie "Die Hard" persona and taken on real, challenging roles. "The Sixth Sense" is no exception--it's just a shame how bad a great deal of the movie is. Toni Collette is passable, Haley Joel Osment is unbearable, and Olivia Williams is definitely underused. A clever setup falls under the weight of its own plot. Skip "The Sixth Sense," and watch M. Night Shyamalan's brilliant followup, "Unbreakable". "Unbreakable" will make you realize just why you loved movies in the first place. "The Sixth Sense" will make you realize how movies can occasionally leave you jaded.
